Follow your inner wisdom

Follow your inner wisdom

You don’t need to go through hardships and bad experiences to make you grow your inner wisdom. It is already inbuilt inside you. Just make sure you follow your heart!

At some point in our life, we meet a person or persons who seems to know it all, and know better than us. They even insist they know what is best for us. Tell me, does this resonate with you?

Rest assured, whatever advise they give you is really the advise they would want to give themselves, as nobody knows you better than you know yourself. In no way, can the insights they offer you compare to the self-awareness you already have built inside you. Our problem is, most of the time, we chose to ignore our own wisdom and look elsewhere (to others) for their approval.

From our first presence on this earth, we have been blessed with the natural ability to know what is right and wrong. As we grow older, we tend to acknowledge it more with material things (like if we touch something too hot, our first reaction is to pull our hands away from the object). This instinct or wisdom, is truly a gift we have been blessed with from the in to help us survive our existence on this earth.

Yet for all its longevity, it is vital that we value and honour this incredible element of the self. It is when we deviate from our inborn wisdom and start doubting ourselves that we start heading into trouble. We start allowing fear to take over us and embrace negative feelings, which will send us into a downward spiral, making it harder and harder to get out of.

When we recognise the power of our own wisdom, we discover how intensely beautiful and useful self-trust can be. I am sure you have heard the term.. ‘Follow Your Heart’.   Many scientists nowadays acknowledge that your heart is truly your centre for your wisdom.. the head just tries to get in the way and push your personal truths out of synch. It subjects the heart to influences from the outside world. This means that it will never demand that we surrender our free will or counsel us to act in opposition to our values.

We need to learn to open ourselves to being more heart-aware. We do this by practising more meditation and living in the present moment, letting go of anything and any notions that do not serve our purpose (like trying to please others all the time) and believing in ourselves enough that whatever anyone says to us will be listened to but not necessarily followed through.

Unlike popular belief, wisdom is not just gained by getting older. The majority of us find wisdom as we get older because we would have lived a life of following suit, following our parents / peers / colleagues and not really following our heart. By the time we get to a certain age, we realise we don’t need to be doing things to please others and thus we get that ‘AHA!’ moment of asking questions like “Why am I doing this? What am I trying to achieve with this?” Then we realise we need to start being truer to ourselves. This doesn’t generally happen before we are in our mid to late 40s or even 50s.

The beautiful lesson I hope you learn here is that we do not need to get to a certain age, make mistakes and live to satisfy others, or even allow others to determine our fate. The wisdom inside of us is not a product of experience but rather a piece of our connection to the universal mind.

In the whole of your existence, nobody you will encounter will ever contribute as much to your ability to do what you need to do and be who you want to be as your natural wisdom. Through it, you reveal your growing consciousness to the greater source and discover the true extent of your strength. If you trust yourself and the universe you will have the paramount ability to achieve your truest potential. Just stay true to your heart and keep meditating!
